Title: Our "New" Project Post by: Ruth on July 27, 2015, 07:09:36 am 1930 Model A Ford.
As best we can, this car was purchased by my Grandfather in 1938. He was killed in when he fell into a fire while he was working on the railroad in the 50's so I never knew him. My Dad inherited this car and it was always setting up in the little building we had. My brother remembers him taking it out probably around 1963 or1964( I was born in 1960) and claims that I was too young to remember. I do think I have a memory of him taking it out around Christmas one year (and this might just be an imagination or dream of mine) but my brother says I couldn't have.... Anyway, it has just been setting up there for all these years. I always thought my brother would take it but he declined saying that he didn't have a place for it. I was the same way....so my sister was going to take it. Long story short, (and many sleepless nights), we brought it home last Thursday. I'm so happy we decided to keep it as my hubby would love to restore it...as would I. So, we have a LOT of work to do on it - but it is so darn cool! Briggs and Stratton engine.....Fodor.....with extra window in the back. Suicide doors.....bench seats and no seat belts...the floor is wooden...and currently you can see the ground through it. Leather rooftop. So.....we will have to build a garage for it eventually and that was one reason why we didn't just jump on taking it on. It will cost a lot to restore and a lot for the garage....and I won't be able to drive it.....as I CAN NOT drive a stick.....but hopefully someday we will have a nice part of my family's history.....I'm so glad we didn't let it go. He wanted to take it in on the trailer for an upcoming car show in order to show it as is.....Apparently there is a big interest when someone does that.... But it doesn't look like he will be able to do that now. We have also bought a camping trailer. So some of our free time will go to that. It's OK if the Model A doesn't get remodeled anytime soon.
