Thanks for the kind thoughts. We had no problems here although family and friends closer to the coast were affected to a lesser or greater degree.

We had a good Christmas thanks Mr Steve, it was a quiet one which suits us at our age.
4  Safe Harbor / Fuzzy Speak / Re: Winter is here...Finally on: December 31, 2018, 09:21:16 pm
I can remember in the past praying for rain where we live, but this winter has been a disaster. We've had so much rain that ground water levels have risen so high that our septic system leach field refuses to leach. This has led to us not being able to flush the toilets, take a shower or even wash dishes. I've taken to having a crap in the woods out back and peeing out back of the house... Lucky we live in the country huh? It's a total disaster with more rain being forecast for the rest of the week. Sad

We just had the mother of all thunderstorms pass over us, I'm glad I got the grass cut before it arrived. Now the soil is nice and wet tomorrow I'll get out and do some weeding...Something I've neglected to do for the past month or so and the bastards are taking over the beds and borders.

I saw that 'firenado' on the news. Jeez it looked damn scarey, somebody described it as how they imagine the gates of hell would look. It was hard to disagree with that.

Christ Steve what a mess it is in Northern Cali. I've been following the disaster and mayhem on the TV news which as you've noted in this thread seems to get worse day by day. I'm glad to hear you and Kathy have not been affected and feel sorry for those who died and those who lost their homes due to the wild fire. The firefighters working on it are freakin' heroes as far as I'm concerned because not alone are they battling the heat and flames they're also working in the heat of the day, it must be gruelling for them.

11  Safe Harbor / Fuzzy Speak / Great weather hereabouts. on: July 25, 2018, 03:08:58 am
I guess that Pam and Mr Steve are getting sweaty weather right about now and where we are we're hitting about 95 on average, but the great thing about it is the fact that we seem to be getting more rain than we've ever had during the summer in previous years. Consequently the garden is looking great and the grass has never looked better than it is right now. Cool

Yeuck... Peanut butter always reminds me of what's found in babies diapers, but having said that I know of someone who likes PB with mayo. Each to their own I suppose, but I just don't like PB or peanuts them selves come to that. Although they will grow in to a quite nice looking houseplant in a pot which was something I used to do with them back in Britland. Cool

Unfortunately Pam one of the trees was a favourite a red maple of which we have two, one each side at the top of the drive which we planted soon after moving in. They've reached about 40 foot now and although it was just a side branch that was ripped off it was a damn big one and has left that tree looking a tad lopsided. I'm hopeful that the rest of the tree will grow to fill the gap. Undecided

One benefit though is that the ripped off tree limb has given me a couple of nice size logs to do a bit of wood carving on which I started on today. Cool
14  Safe Harbor / Fuzzy Speak / We got lucky. on: July 24, 2018, 02:31:33 am
Over the Weekend we had a massive storm pass over us, during the storm a half dozen power line poles were taken down and we lost all power from 10.15 Saturday night until about 3.30 the following Sunday afternoon. We also had some minor tree damage in our yard, but a half mile or so down the road was utter devastation with estimated straight line wind speeds approaching 85 mph there were a number of houses with roofs ripped off and gawd knows how many trees either down or snapped off along with RV's turned over and other vehicle damage from falling trees and limbs. Now I've got aches and pains from clearing up our minor ( in comparison) tree damage.

As the title of this post says... We got lucky. Cool
