Those little guys are keeping you busy huh? I do wonder why you do it though, are Monarchs under threat these days or is it just a hobby?

They are really beautiful creatures. I wouldn't have the patience for doing this though....but I have enjoyed the blog and your postings about them.

They aren't considered endangered, Fuzzy - but the forests they migrate to in Mexico are being destroyed which is of great concern. Add to that the fact that the fields of milkweed - which are the only plant the monarch larva consumes for nourishment - are being destroyed because it is considered a pest.
It isn't difficult or time-consuming. I just make it so because I'm anal. I love it, and I'm excited to think what it will be like in a few weeks when all of these cats emerge as adults and are released.
I wish I had a decent video camera.

You must have the patience of Job and good eyesight.... They are very interesting and so pretty when they are full fledged butterflies.

From what I've seen on the TV about the migration of them it's made to appear that they favour certain trees and 'roost' in those trees in their tens of thousands. Or.... Is that not right?

That's quite an interesting Blog, Bill. It's very informative and well written.
I don't have many Monarchs in FL, I've only seen a couple in all the years we live here. We do have Butterflies and I plant to attract them as some of them are incredibly beautiful.

It doesn't take that much patience, Dez - it takes a LOT more patience for Fuzz to carve then for me to do thi
They have a preference for areas they migrate to...I"m not sure if it's the trees or a gene that calls them there.
Werner- I have been told that a good portion of the guys I send off in the fall probably end up in Florida...not sure where, but I now Luke keeps and eye out for them with his bug zapper...

Now why doesn't that surprise me... It does too take patience and dedication... Fuzz can move along at HIS pace..You have to wait for nature to take over.

I think it takes patience too....anytime you're dealing with a living creature it does. That's a cool video. I wonder why they all go there? I rarely see more than a couple of them at a time up here.
