My Dad was a train guy too and the first thought that came to mind when I opened this post and saw the thread was of him..... He had albums of train sounds he would listen to and he would frequently go in and watch them come in to town. Nice shots.....

Thanks Ruth.... My dad built a train track around the top of the kitchen cabinets.... And talk about making a train that would sit in middle of the table and bring the food around... That never happened but the train on the cupboards was pretty kool....

As a young'un I was fascinated with trains... Proper trains that is, with a smoke stack and billowing clouds of steam and heat coming from the pistons. I used to collect train numbers as well. We used to be able to buy books with the train numbers printed in them in numerical order and you would underline the number of the trains you saw. I would stand on mainline station platforms for hours on end taking note of the numbers on the trains that went through. Lots of Brit train pics here.... http://www.google.com/search?q=uk+steam+trains&nord=1&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=huLIUuazKMXNsQSl4ILgDQ&ved=0CEEQsAQ&biw=1280&bih=617You can see the numbers on the trains that we used to underline in our little book.

OH yes the ole steam engines..... My dad is a big fan of those ones as well..... Would love to see one in working order around here today.... I think that would be a fun way to spend a day... Watching trains and marking numbers down...

Beautiful pics JoJo When I was about 5, my neighbor had an antique steam engine he would fire up once a year. People would come from miles away to have pictures taken of them on it dressed as engineer. It was pretty cool!

Probably so, Ruth. I've loved old steam trains since I was a young kid and still do to this day.

I'm more of an old fashioned locomotive guy although your pictures of the Diesel train are good, I'm sure there are some OT Locomotives still operating in the big sky country.

WOW.... Is that a model of a real locomotive? If so, I love the double piston layout to the twin sets of 6 drive wheels.
Tis amazing how steam locos went from this in a few relatively short years.

Z Gauge Maerklin model of a DB 2-6-8 Z gauge is the smallest but even a locomotive of this tiny size requires a 24" radius track because of the number of wheels.. Here's a picture of the different gauges: I have a few of these but find them extremely difficult to even put them on the rails. Noch used to sell this layout which was the size of an attaché case:

What a neat set up that is. I was in to model trains to when I was kid and had quite a large set up of Triang locos and rolling stock. The other big seller in Britland at the time was the Hornby Dublo models which I never really liked as the track had a central live rail from which the locos picked up their power, the Triang on the other hand had a normal twin rail from which the locos picked up the power. more realistic ya know.
