I remember seeing him a long long time ago on the TV. Back when there were only three channels to watch and he did have a funny act. The only trouble was that once you'd seen him perform once or twice it was the same old same old the next time he was on. There were so many acts on the TV those days that made the transition from music hall (vaudeville you would call it) that taking the same act around different theaters for years could be profitable, whereas TV was viewed by tens of thousands each night so the next time an act was on they needed something different to do. Many acts fell by the wayside because they couldn't keep up with the demand for 'fresh and new' for a TV audience.

You are, of course, correct. I was traveling down memory lane, as I tend to do more often lately. Victor tried to change his act several times without much success, but he still holds a special place in my mind as one that taught us Classical music can be enjoyed by all. I did enjoy the slapstick comedy of Jackie Gleason and Sid Caesar, but while it was a welcome distraction, there wasn't much substance and I tend to forget their skits.
