Any one know who to transfer email addresses from one computer to another - easily so I can understand it?Huh?
I am now using Microsoft Office Outlook 2010 as my email program and have an older computer that I would like to transfer my contacts from and that programs is Office Outlook 2007(I think).  I've tried exporting...but it hasn't transported all of them.  What I don't understand is that address book seems to be a bit different than contacts ......and I think this is where many of them are stored(in the address book).  Any suggestions?

Hi Ruth, I do have suggestions! I use Outlook 2003 at home and 2007 at work, but it seems to be pretty much the same. As I re-read your query, it seems that you already imported your Contacts list, but have missing entries? The address book is usually used in Outlook Express while Outlook uses the Contacts list.

When you exported from Outlook 2007 did you use export to a file (comma separated values, Windows option)? Is it possible that one of the computers is using Outlook Express?

Hi Pam.  Actually I have not tried importing to this computer (the export was on another computer, but when I did that, it didn't work very well).  If you know of a way to do this, starting from scratch and not using the wording I used, how would you tell someone who doesn't know much about computers how to do this?

I was thinking that the address book was in Outlook Express too, but when I click on to make a new email, there is an address book icon across the bar at the top, so it is confusing to me as to why you have both address book and contacts.

Ah, now I understand  Wink Even though the icon looks like an address book, it's called a contact list in Outlook. Please don't be discouraged or overwhelmed by the instructions since I detailed every click  Cheesy It looks like it would take forever and be complicated...it's not!!!!

Export Steps:
In the File menu of Outlook, click on Import and Export. Choose Export to a file, then Next. Choose Comma Separated Values (Windows) and Next. Choose Contacts from the list and click Next. Give the file a name and choose where to put it by clicking on Browse and selecting a location (maybe your flash drive or the desktop if you are transferring by CD) important thing is being able to find it. Click Next and Finish. You'll see the little folders copying.

Import Steps:
Copy the Contacts List.CSV (or whatever you named the file) to the new computer or plug in the flash drive. Open Outlook (this may vary since I haven't played with 2010 version) and click on File---Import and Export. Choose Import from another program or file and click Next. Choose Comma Separated Values (Windows) and click Next. Click the Browse button and find your saved file, (may be the E or F drive if you are using a flash drive). Click on the ContactsList.CSV file and choose whether you want duplicates to be created (super helpful to allow duplicates if you already started adding entries..you may have missed an address or phone number) click Next. Select Contacts from the destination folder list. Click Next and if you want you can click to map the custom fields. Click Finish...you are done!

I work today, but when it slows down, I'll check back and see how you are doing  Wink

Whoosh, right over my head. I do it the hard way by coping and pasting all addy's to an email and sending it to my self, then adding them one by one to my address book.  Cheesy

Thanks so much Pam!  I followed your instructions and this time everything looks right.  SOOOOOO much easier than putting them in manually!!!!!  Done in a matter of seconds once I had exported the files to the thumb drive.  I must not have chosen the same things as you instructed when I did it before......
THANKS!

I sure am glad I got those addresses transferred.  I left the old laptop on lastnight and when I came into this room this morning I thought, what's that noise?   It sounds like a sick moose.......

At least it stayed up and running until you harvested the email addys  Cheesy Could just be a fan...my processor fan sounded like that when it's bearing went out. It was a $4 part to repair it. You up for a little investigation?

For anyone able to do all that fiddly work on quilts, checking the fan should be a walk in the park. Cool

I saw my fan when I went in to add the new memory  Grin It looks like replacing it would be a matter of taking 4 screws out, unplugging the old one and plugging the new one in and putting the screws back in...at least that's what I was thinking when I looked at it.  Pam, would that be how to do it?
